Copilot Studio vs Agentforce

These are platforms for building and running agents inside a business, not assistants you sign up for. Microsoft's Copilot Studio is positioned around business data, natural-language agent building and publishing to several channels. Salesforce's Agentforce is positioned around support and employee workflows connected to Salesforce. The practical choice usually follows where your data and workflows already live, and then comes down to how each bills for agent work.

How each one charges for agent work

Copilot Studio

Microsoft's pricing page says Copilot Credits are used whenever an agent performs a task or generates a response, and that the amount varies. Standalone Copilot Studio is sold as a tenant-wide licence with capacity packs of 25,000 credits at $200 per pack per month. Microsoft also lists a pay-as-you-go meter and a pre-purchase plan with prepaid credits, with automatic pay-as-you-go coverage when prepaid credits run out. It says the packs and the meter carry no difference in product features, only in how you pay. Microsoft separately says Copilot Studio included with Microsoft 365 Copilot lets licensed users build and use internal agents within Microsoft 365 at no additional cost, so check which rights you already hold before buying more.

Agentforce

Salesforce's pricing page lists three ways to buy: Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 credits, where each action an agent takes draws from the pool; per-conversation pricing; and per-user licences for employee-facing use. Its own worked example prices an order-status agent at 40 Flex Credits per use case, or $0.20, and $120 per month at 20 requests a day. That is Salesforce's illustration, not a typical bill. Prerequisite Salesforce licences and other consumption services can add cost.

What this means

Both bill on usage, but the unit differs: a credit per task or response at Microsoft, and a credit per action, a conversation or a user at Salesforce. You cannot compare list prices directly. Estimate your own volume, count what each of your workflows does per request, and ask both vendors to price the same workload.

Questions to ask before you choose

  1. Where does the data the agent needs already live: Microsoft 365 and Power Platform, or Salesforce?
  2. What are the admin controls for who can build, publish and approve actions?
  3. Which connectors does the first workflow need, and are they included or premium?
  4. How is a task, response, action or conversation counted for your workflow?
  5. What happens when credits run out: pause, overage or automatic pay-as-you-go?
  6. How can you see and audit what the agent did?

What this guide does not say

It does not rank the platforms, and we did not test either. We found no vendor statement on retention or training in the pages we read, and governance details live in separate documentation we have not covered. Read the records for Copilot Studio and Agentforce, see the team workflows use case, and use the approval checklist with your own security team.
